Disappointed Man

Origin
A stock photograph showing a man with an unhappy, troubled look was first posted on stock image sites in 2011. The photo didn't become a major meme until around 2015, when people started sharing it to convey disappointment and show reactions to situations that didn't go as planned. The template took off because the emotion it captures—letdown and frustration—is something most people experience, which helped it spread rapidly across different social networks. What made it particularly useful was how flexible it turned out to be. People added text and made variations that fit almost any scenario, whether serious or silly, and this adaptability kept it relevant and allowed it to become a go-to image whenever someone wanted to communicate dissatisfaction or sadness about something.
