Aeroplane_reversing

Origin
In late 2020, a TikTok video showing an airplane backing up on a runway went viral. The clip's appeal came from its sheer oddness—watching an aircraft move in reverse is not something you typically see and struck viewers as funny. The original footage included comedic voiceover and exaggerated audio effects that enhanced the humor. People on TikTok and Twitter soon began using the video as a template, adding their own text and modifications to it. They typically paired the backwards plane with captions describing ordinary events in an overly dramatic way. The meme spread widely because it worked well for this purpose: the contrast between the strange image of a reversing airplane and whatever serious scenario someone wanted to joke about created plenty of room for different kinds of humor and creative variations.
